an uncommon path (mini) |
this is the mini version of my blog 'an uncommon spiritual path' - you'll find the maxi blog here www.dionforster.com |
Is ambition a bad thing? I think that a lack of a measure of ambition can be bad. Many wonderful advances have taken place throughout history because of the efforts of women and men who have worked harder, more creatively, and with greater intensity than their pears.
In my book ‘Transform your work life’ I wrote a chapter on the journey from success to significance. I think that the success requires ambition, significance requires aspiration.
To aspire, in the truest sense of the word, means to be filled with the ‘breath’ of another. As a Christian priest I aspire to live my life in accordance with the ways of Jesus. I seek daily inspiration for that journey. It is that ‘good’ that drives me to do things, rather than a sense of personal acclaim and ambition.
What do you think?
Like dogs in a wheel, birds in a cage, or squirrels in a chain, ambitious men still climb and climb, with great labor, and incessant anxiety, but never reach the top. -Robert Burton
